What the BALTIC asked for

We were approached by the BALTIC - centre for contemporary art - to digitally promote an exhibition called Spank the Monkey which showcased a unique collection of urban art.

As part of this, we were asked to create a micro-site to promote the exhibition as well as implementing an ambush campaign across leading websites in the region.

What we did

We created an interactive micro-site to reflect the vibrant nature of the exhibition. This included featured ‘street’ art, the latest news and downloadable wallpapers.

We also developed an SMS campaign which guided people around Newcastle city centre to explore the ‘street’ art from the exhibition.

Each display area included an SMS keyword which people could text to a specific number to find out where the next piece of artwork was located.

As part of the ambush campaign, we created an animated banner which linked through to the micro-site. This banner was positioned on the homepage of various regional websites to improve awareness and drive more traffic to the site.

The results

Through our sophisticated SMS campaign, we were able to track the amount of people who visited the exhibition and lead hundreds more that way.

The micro-site was voted ‘Best Podcast/Blog’ in the 2007 DADI Awards, and as a result of the campaign working so well, the BALTIC asked us to become their digital partner for further exhibitions.
